Description: Inspired and taking notes at the 2012 Council for Exceptional Children Children's Action Network (CAN) Coordinator Meeting in Virginia.
The diagram to the left represents Ashley's implementation-science-based philosophy on moving beyond systems-change to movement-making. Similar to Ashley's teaching philosophy, the interactions and meaning-making practitioners and professionals engage in is critical to achieving needed changes in the fields of EI/ECSE. "Studies examining citizen contacts with government, including E-Government, demonstrate perceived needs to be the essential factor predicting engagement, and deliberative experiences, particularly those that occur and are sustained within social networks, are a crucial aspect of improving participation and engagement" (Lyons, 2012). As such, to effect real change, we need to engage colleagues, families, and other stakeholders with their interests and needs in mind, and we must then work to provide opportunities to discuss these needs and the possible solutions or ideas we might implement to address them.
